With Obama socialism? McCain keeps bringing up this raise in taxes. But what Mccain hides is the whole truth. Obama wants to tax the rich under the belief they make more so, they pay more.

So all those who are just in hot love with McCain are just like him. He has brought a woman Palin who is under investigation for trooper gate, receiving earmarks. She's just another repub.

As a vet, I cannot fathom why mccain always rattles his veteran saber but his record for screwing the vets is 100%. I read his vote record, he either votes no or he is absent from voting. What have the vets done to him? to heck with him and all who love him. he's a turn coat against his own.

another thought, mccain favors helping out the richest 1% of this country....i wonder how many of the repubs actually fall into that upper 1% ? alot of republicans are not in that upper 1%

also mccains campaign is behind the georgia/Russian war video link

Why is it that the CEO's of Fannie & Freddie can take multi-million dollar bonuses and then hand their failures over to the government? I believe the taxpayers should demand a refund of the essentially stolen money before we agree to take on another operation that failed due to greed.

Let's remove party politics. This is the kind of stuff that happens when a group in control pushes forth its policy. Now we have a problem where the government tries to take a reactionary - knee jerk after knee jerk to try a remedy that is poor -- makes us poorer. Which way do we go? Up, down, left, right? Remember the silly McDonald's commercial where the kid swings to the left and right. The poor decision making is beyond comprehension. These groups are supposed to help the public. I agree that it is very good that the leaders have been dismissed. However they need some white collar jail time for their stupidity and poor decision-making.

And as long as we're going after groups who are giving it to the American pocket book, don't forget there's still time to get the 536 sitting members to serve some behind the bars time as well! Some oath they take. Is the oath these guys swear to the corporate leaders more important than taking care of the people who pay their base salaries?

The "FED" has nothing what so ever to do with our government. They are a private concern held by a few of the most powerful families in the world. They finance wars on both sides because they reap the rewards regardless of which side wins.

Our Constitution gives our government the right to print and use money without usury. If the government would buy out the "FED", all that money being spent on the national debt would return to our own coffers. We could then print our own money without usury and secure our financial stability. When all of the debts were paid off we would then be once again an established America.

Our government has just given the "FED" ( a privately held group that you cannot purchase stock in nor has any Congress had the success to have the "FED" audited) the right to manage all our money and assure their financial completeness through the IRS. Their books are closed and cannot be seen.

How much more will we Americans stand for before we say ENOUGH and demand changes through our elected officials. Your vote will say a lot and your input will mean a lot. Let's get all the cats out of the house, give them a 2 term tenure, take away all their benefits and retirement funds, get rid of the lobbyists, the FED, the IRS and make everyone pay their fair share.

It is time we took care of our own problems and let the rest of the world do the same.

Agree with most of what you said, but key difference---government was NOT given the right to PRINT money. It is exceedingly ironic that all the wild ideas that were called crazy not so long ago are actually happening now and people still don't put the events together. Crazy combination of industry, banking, government, "patriotic wars", uncertain economic times, treaties lowering barriers between countries, transfer of wealth from one country to another, choices which are really no choices at all. Last chance. Vote the incumbents out, as if you really will.

The Bush administration has let all Americans down and so have the politicians we have elected to represent us (the American People).
I find it interesting that the government has helped those who caused the mess in the first place. Now when it is a few Americans who are losing their home, I would say it is probably something they did wrong or something they could not prevent from happening like a sickness or loss of job. But we are talking about many millions of Americans who were given the opportunity to live the American Dream and own a home. In that quest for the American dream, many mortgage brokers, Realtors, and bankers took advantage of people who were vulnerable to predatory lenders, brokers and Realtors.
Once upon a time when a person bought a house they were explained in full detail exactly what they were signing on closing day. Now they were quickly guided through the paperwork without much explaination etc.
As the feds look over the "books" and look into the mortgage and servicing companies, I think they are going to see the biggest problem in American history - the corruption of big buisness toward the American people. If millions of Americans are in foreclosure, then not all were at fault. Something had to go wrong and I believe the answer is the preditory lending practices of banks. I find it interesting how homeowners are not getting the help from the government but the big mortgage companies are. I also find it interesting how banks say it costs millions of millions of dollars for foreclosures each year but they do not do all they can to help our the homeowner.
I went through foreclosure but save my home because of a friend who lend me the money. Countrywide put my home into foreclosure and turn my mortgage over to Litton Loan Servicing (preditory lending at its best). I called the company immediately to get help. Here is what they did. They said "no problem" we think we can modify this loan - do not worry. They said they would let me know no later than two weeks. I called back in two weeks, they said they are still waiting on the invester. I ask them can I talk to the investor. They said - "the investor is not a person - you can not talk to them". We will help you, don't worry you have plenty of time before your house goes to the sheriff to be auctioned". (this was Litton Loan) Four weeks after first contact the loan now 4 months behind I contacted Litton and they said "don't worry we are still waiting". I asked them wouldn't that put more charges and higher payment if I do not get this modified soon. They said "don't worry we will get a modification, then drop the extra fees". Then sheriff's showed up to my house to appraise the house, told me the auction will be in four weeks. I called Litton who said, "we can not do the modification because the house is in securities. sell anything and everything you can to try and save your home" . For five months I trusted what they were saying "that they would modify my loan." As yourself: "does this sound like a company who wanted to help me stay in my home". This company also charges coorporate, insurance (even though you carry your own insurance), and other fees unrelated to the loan to get the home.
They are not helping people, they are taking homes from people who put a lot of money in their homes. I think they will find out Litton Loan servicing and other mortgage companies are ripping the American consumer. What my question is to the canidates is : "When and what are you going to do to repay Americans who have loss their homes and their life savings when they find out the mortgage companies and servicers took advantage of homeowners.
If you want to read more on Litton Loan and other Mortgage fraud companies - just look at the horror stories on the internet. Many people are being taken advantage of and need to be repaid. The best way to solve the problem would be to stop all foreclosures in the United States. If someone is in foreclosure - lawyers should be appointed to take a fine tooth comb through the history of the loan and what happened - then they should help the homeowner get caught back up (instead of helping just the banks). If there is any signs of preditory lending or servicing, the company should pay the house off and the homeowner gets the home free and clear. Or at the least the government should help the homeowner get caught up by giving the mortgage company only the back payments and the homeowner then could pay the government back when they get back on their feet. That way the mortgage company can not take the money from the government bailout without helping homeowners keep their home.

In Missouri in 2000 a Republican led senate, authored a bill designed to eliminate predatory lending and "no doc" loans, that would prevent lenders from making loans on the just the word of the borrower.

However, the author of the bill lost to a Democratic Party Candidate.

The bill was lost on the floor, and when I brought it up to the new senator and representative at a "Town Meeting", I was told:
"I don't see a problem occurring with predatory lending or no doc loans, so I am not going to support this bill." Eight years later 2 out of every 5 homes for sale in his district is a foreclosure or short sale held by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.

These are factory workers, that have lost their homes when the job ended, and the factory closed. (Ford in Hazelwood, Chrysler in Fenton, Boeing in St. Louis.)

            Coincidence??

Also, I have represented several people who have bought FNMA homes, after they were foreclosed on.

The F N M A "Vice President" (apparently a title comparable to manager in a hamburger joint) has refused to sign anything until the day of closing, and has even threatened to "sell the home to someone else" if we didn't stop asking for signed documents. Twice the closing has been extended 90 to 120 days because the F N M A V P would not, or did not do what was required by LAW in EVERY OTHER sale in Missouri.

This same man has killed accepted contracts within a week of closing, because they "reserve the right to accept any offer, regardles of when or what order it is presented", which he says means up to and including the day of closing.

He has then. on two occassions known to me. attempted to get the first buyer back after the 2nd "better buyer" backed out or could not get financing or close.

You would think that FNMA would want to clear these homes off the books quickly, but because his (The FNMA Vice President of this district) salary does not depend on the sale of the home, he could care less how long it takes.

            SMART.

So, Tim Lightfoot FNMA Midwest Vice President out of Texas, selling any more foreclosures to other buyers lately???

There are now 35 homes on the market to every one buyer in St. Louis.

            Want to buy a house?

On foreclosures---remember even with everything else, it was a baited trap, mortgages were given, I don't care what kind and what kind of documentation, the kicker was not to re-new these mortgages under the same terms when these mortgages became due. The kicker was not go give thirty year mortgages, but to give short-term mortgages with a ballon and a need to re-finance. How many people would be in foreclosure today, regardless of finances, if they had been in a thirty year loan or been able to re-finance under the very same rules they financed in the first place. BTW this doesn't take into account the outrageous increase in credit card interest for little if any reason. Add on the recent changes in the law and one cannot help but see that this was a plan to fleece the average American of his/her financial well-being. You are the little guy. Stop blaming the little guy, even if you think he/she wasn't wise. We are all the little guy getting fleeced by the big guys. Don't throw stones at each other, which is just what they want, circle the wagons and realize we are together and they use our sense of guilt and honesty against us.

              Mark Kennedy posted

....IF IT NEVER HAPPENED THERE WOULD BE NO SURGE. McCain's argues that he had the judgment to support sending additional combat troops to Iraq to quell the rise in extremist violence. Fine, the surge was successful and exceeded the expectations of many, however, if our intelligence community spent more time collecting reliable data on Iraq's WMD situation and Saddam's ties to Al'qaeda, we never would have invaded a sovereign country based on lies and conjecture.

McCain wants Obama to acknowledge the success of the surge. I would agree with that request if McCain would acknowledge that invading Iraq was a monumental mistake.

Now to a more serious issue. OBAMA. I am white, my wife is white, my kids are white...you get the picture. I live in the south...as does the rest of my family. I am Republican, so it the rest of my family. I am voting for Obama, so is the rest of my family. Here is what I'm seeing and hearing. Many disgruntled men and women who were big supporters of Hillary are going to place their vote for McCain. They're upset that Obama got the nod. Well I want you to think about this as a mother and father...your 17 or 18 year old child (that will be graduating on 2009 and 2010) will be called by recruiters (I was a Marine Corps Recruiter). We (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps) already have your address and phone number. The schools give that information to us annually.

Military Recruiters are at your child's school, meeting with their teachers, developing contacts, working "very closely with athletic coaches" (Recruiters areconstantly looking for strong, athletic and intelligent males). Anyhow, we're going to call your house, we're going to send your kids (again males are the primary target for our advertisements) information about our particular service, we're going to get them in our offices where we use the advanced sales techniques (taught by Achieve Global) and communications skills (taught by Freiberg.com) that we learned in recruiters school (military sales schools that you as a tax payer - paid for) and we're are going to get your kids to enlist. If it's done right, you'll have to admire the skill and cunning with which this happens. (Side note - young men and women in the Delayed Entry Program can terminate their enlistment up until their final oath of enlistment and final signature of enlistment paper is completed at the Military Entrance Processing Station.) Parents, side note for you, Military recruiters are very slick and will use every trick in the book to get you (mom and dad) to sign the enlistment paperwork for your kids. Here was one of my favorite sayings: Mr. and Mrs. Jones...the form you are signing today is authorizing the Army to medically and academically test your child. What they don't tell you is that once your child is done with his academic testing and the physical....your child will immediately be administered the oath of enlistment and will now be part of that services Delayed Entry Program ( for up to one year.) This process usually occurs for high school students between their junior and senior school year. REMEMBER, IF MCCAIN IS ELECTED AND HE HAS A CHANCE...YOUR CHILD WILL BE SENT TO IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN. SO TELL ME...DO YOU HAVE FOND MEMORIES AND LOTS OF PICTURES.

If you are planning to vote for McCain because in your good conscience you can not vote for a black man...GUESS WHAT... OBAMA IS ALSO WHITE. If your vote against Obama is based on race...then you're an ignorant fool and I hope your child has a nice visit with a Marine Recruiter and signs up for the infantry. If you're a Hillary voter...and you will not vote for Obama...well, karma is pretty ruthless...and just think of that house that you'll be foreclosing on because your husband lost his job. A VOTE FOR OBAMA IS A VOTE FOR CHANGE AND AN END TO THE WAR IN IRAQ. A VOTE FOR MCCAIN MEANS FOUR MORE YEARS OF WAR AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHERE YOUR CHILD IS HEADED!

What do you think about that?

If the parents are not smart enough to read what they sign or ask questions, that is their fault. Also, anyone who joins the military has six months to get out, this is not told to you by the military. I have never heard anyone in the military say they were tricked into joining, I do not even think you were ever in the military.
Obama has not practical experience to run this country. You might as well go get the manager of your local fast food restaurant, who has as much ,if not more qualifications. It is good that he raise money to help people get trained for jobs, but this does not qualify you to run a country.
McCain has experience at making decisions and policy for the benefit of this country. He has worked with many Democrats on bi-partisin legislation and this has hurt him with the Republican party. McCain has more experience with foreign policy and diplomats.
As for an end to the war. Obama said the other night, in the O'Riely interview that he would pull troops from Iraq. Also, he said he would send these troops to Afghanistan to fight. Obama is not going to end the war, he is just moving troops from one front to another. This just destroyed your reason for electing Obama.
The reason many people are losing jobs, is because of the Clinton legeacy NAFTA. This sent and is still sending many jobs out of the country. The lenders are to blame for many people losing their homes, due to allowing people to buy home they could not afford. These lenders should be held accountable for this problem, not Bush or McCain. Most of these lending companies are ran by Democrats, so thank the party for this problem. Now the Democrats are tputting these companies under government control, which is not a function over the Government. The government is only here to govern, not take over companies and run them. This is moving our country into Socialism and Marxisim, the Democratic way of life. This also, hurts the economy by fasle propping it up. The only way the Economy can work is by people and companies having a chance to fail or succeed without government intervention.

The RUSSIAN National Fund -- they use for investing said several months ago that in order to diversify
their holdings, they were going to buy into Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac heavily. By now, they own
a large part of both of these firms. You may have to pay your mortgage in Rubles before too long.

BTW, September 4th, Leaman Brothers just turned over controlling interest of the firm to the SOUTH KOREAN Bank that holds most of their stock.

IT'S GOING TO BE WORSE, GET READY FOR THE U.S. COLLAPSE!!! (2012) (by "Clifford Brown")

I've been trying to make the connection understood for some time now between economics and national security. Our Great Wall of China is our economy. That's what enables us to wage war on two fronts for protracted periods of time, and allows us to buy friends and influence people abroad. Aside from the threat of a nuclear explosion, the greatest threat to American international security lies in our economic security. Other civilizations and great nations have declined precipitously on the heels of an economic downturn. Communist Russia was the latest case in point.

It WILL happen to us if the gap between rich and poor continues to deteriorate. As I have said before, they are sumtuously wealthy people still living in the poorest nations, but very few and these nations remain helpless to defend themselves against hostile takeovers, except that nobody wants to take them over anyhow. This is not going to be the case with the USA. Money will pour into the USA from abroad as we become more and more as the liquidity crisis continues.

Soon the treasury is going to feel the crunch of declining taxes as employment tanks. It has already begun. So we'd better begin to swallow our pride unless we can turn this recession around because the world is much smaller these days and more and more foreign nations have access to means by which they can buy up more and more of our prime instruments. Our only hope is a government which is able to give the middle-class a new row to hoe, and not a new reason to hope that they can achieve junior executive status in some foreign owned bank, or investment company, or industrial complex. The two parties give us a choice between SUPPLY side and DEMAND side economics. We've already seen the dangers of giving the suppliers a free rein. They produce goods that nobody needs but everybody thinks they want. These goods do not add value to anything new, they do not increase output as promoted. They waste resources. A good example of this is the SUV craze, the Ipod, the Wii etc. including the six or seven products littering my apartment that either hardly worked or never worked satisfactorily.

The producers only partially know what the consumers want. That is why it makes better sense to empower the consumer rather than the producer. This is true because if, on the other hand, if you empower the consumer with discretionary funds, that is cater to the DEMAND side of the equation, they will go into the market and buy what they need, a good portion of which goods help them to increase their own productivity. Their buying will force the retailers to increase their inventories, thereby forcing the producers to produce m ore of the right kinds of goods. The producers will thus increase their investment funding not by tax-cuts as McCain is suggesting, but by supplying what consumers require; better school supplies, healthier foods, energy efficient homes, better health care and so on.

We've had EIGHT years of coddling the producers and that hasn't worked because when you neglect the buyers (that is the demand side) demand, or consumer confidence, goes down. So they shower us with more and more exotic and unnecessary goods to persuade us to buy new baubles with our shrinking purses. Now we need to balance the demand side of the DEMAND=SUPPLY side of the equation by empowering the consumers, by giving them free access to education and health care and reducing the taxes of those with the fewest discretionary funds. Both of these things raise the productivity of the nation. We are in trouble because we are competing against other developed and developing nations with one hand tied behind our backs. Now we need EIGHT years, (at the least) of empowering the consumers, and that's what the Democratic ticket is all about.

I lived in times where people could actually work and save and buy their own homes. In that respect I certainly wish I could reverse time.

Thank you Mr. Greenspan. The mission was to put more and more under Federal control and by making monitary decisions that build a bubble for the loan and banking industry and looking the other way you paved the way for this to happen...

Both Parties sicken me these days.. they have become a mockery of what they were meant to do.. You need to allow average people to run for office.. people who havent gone to Harvard and had a silver spoon in their mouth, then think they can tell us everythings gonna be OK with our 4 dollar fuel, 4 dollar gallons of milk..constant war...its been such a successful 8 years in office for bush..lol. And I didnt see anyone up there rocking the boat very much about it DEMS or Reps..Definitely doesnt make me think anyone can tell me how much better the Reps are than the Dems though.. Why they keep bailing all these companies out is beyond me.. why dont they bail me out from paying 4 dollars a damn gallon for fuel!! I dont see Bush stepping up and taking action by making it so fuel cant be traded based on speculation.. So apparently he is not too concerned with it.. his gas is paid for! We seriously as a nation need to get these Reps and Dems out of Washington..get someone new up there..who has a clue what the average American needs...I am a single parent with 3 kids and in the Military....all those 1.9% pay raises dont amount to @!$%# when everything else goes up.. funny how that works huh!!

I don't think they should bail them out. It would be fun to watch it play itself out.

Yeah it would be extremely funny....!! If all these idiots wouldnt have bought their homes for 3 times the value.., then guess what they could sell them!! What a concept.. 100 dollars a square foot that is a good number to buy for... NOT 200 dollars a square foot.. a 1500 sq ft. house is just not worth 200K.. Are you on crack people.....more like 90K..get with the program!

Amazing isn't it. This is just like here in Indianapolis. We have a private owner of a football franchise that we the taxpayers pay for his facility to "house" his team. Now when it comes down to it we bail out the lenders and the brokers that good ole' Phil Graham who was tossed out of McSames political campaign for one month helped deregulate this industry. Wake up America, ask yourselves. Do you really think these guys would bail you out, our even possibly commit my and your taxpayer dollars to "enhance" your local economy or mine. Wait. Wait. Can you count how many homes you own? I can. And I can do it without the benefit of a private jet. 6 years ago we give tax breaks to a populace less than 5 percent of 350 million. Why o why does our general population vote to put people in office that are beholden to a very small segment of our country. Why doesn't the federal government bail out the millions of home owners that got shafted the past three years on their homeloans by these very same unscrupulous bankers? For those of us that bought a home several years ago we have seen our home values plummet by these bankers giving below value mortgages and now we as tax payers are going to bail them out. Fascism is alive and well in the U.S. It's the modern day equivalent of robber barons. Sorry guns, gays and god aren't tops on my agenda. It's the party that keeps sucking the giant tete of the euber wealthy that I won't support.

Most of the people losing homes brought it on themselves, by buying high priced homes they could not afford. Also, the lenders should not have made these loans to start with. Some have lost jobs which have caused financial hardships, but most bought homes with a small payment to start with, which doubled or tripled after a few years. As for the bailout, Democrats passed the legislation to provide a buyout and we will have more of this same thing if a Democrat President is elected.

The reason we are losing jobs, is due to the NAFTA treaty signed by a President Clinton. This allowed jobs to be moved to Mexico and Canada which causes more unemployment. Also, the influx of illegal aliens is causing wages to stay low. This low wage is causing American citizens to lose good construction and manual labor jobs, due to these illegals doing the jobs for lower pay.

The Democrats are going to raise taxes on the white and blue collar workers to pay for health care and other benefits they will provide. The rich that are suppose to be taxed will use their tax breaks to get out of it so, the tax will be passed down as usually. I do not know about anyone else, but I am tired of paying for everyone who thinks they are owed something by our government. The government was set up to govern, not support the people who do not want to make their own living. Welfare was just a short term fix during the Depression, but Democrats have made it a right for anyone who dose not want to work. This is to make people who rile on them to live, this is just another form of slavery which the Democrats (the slave owner party) is using to further our move to Socialism or Marxism.

The only way to stimulate the economy is to get people to spend and this is only done when people have more money, which is done by lower taxes. There is plenty of money coming in to the tax coffers, if it is managed properly by the persons making the legislation. Quit ear marking funds, Pork spending, giving money to special interest groups, and go to a flat tax where everyone pays the same percentage of their compensation ( this will do away with deductions and the IRS).

We do not need Government Managed Health care, this will only make health care worse. Have you heard any people from Canada talking about their government ruined health care plan. They have to come to the U.S. to get a good doctor, because all the good doctors have either left the country, retired or went into private practice. Their health care is worse than an HMO. The government will tell you if you can have an operation or transplant, not your Doctor. They will look at your age, weight, and health condition, then decide if you or someone else deserves the operation or transplant. ANYONE WHO DOESN'T have health insurance can go to any emergency room or any public health clinic and must be treated whether they can pay or not pay. This is a law.

In closing, I want more freedom to choose for myself and less government control over my life.
There are jobs out there. the government should train people for other jobs or make people who can learn a trade ans take them off welfare. Anyone whom is physically able should be trained for jobs that are out there and put to work, if they do not want to work cut the handouts off. It should be a hand up, not a handout. Republicans are for your freedom to choose, Democrats are for telling you how you will live your life and for making the people who do work pay for the people who do not want to work, but think they should live the same lifestyle as everyone else. A vote for OBAMA is a vote for Socialism and a person who's only experience is raising money to train people for jobs. I am not saying there is anything wrong with this, but that he does not have the experience needed to run our county. By the way, why can the Democrats not produce OBAMA's original birth certificate. All they have is a copy that is not certified or signed.

I live in Indiana, my governor is Bush's best buddy @!$%# Daniels former budget director. We have seen our property taxes quadruple in past four years. Not to mention last time my state voted for a democrat is when JFK ran for the presidency. In fact my state is a human petry dish of conservative politics. Indiana state run by the local house and senate and governors over the years is what only third or fourth to other republican states such as in medium income, job growth, college education rates, or for you super jesusy birth expectancy. So tell you what if you think the retards have the cornerstone on actually running a government come move to Indiana. Please buy my home, I live in country club neighborhood, have watched my home value drop by a third(no I didn't buy it on a prime variable loan but back in the clinton era.) Looking forward to when my job is finally liquidated and I will move to somewhere else where there's less fascism.

All I can say is you have the option to move, if you do not like where you live. When the Democrats take over, you will not have this option. When your federal taxes are raised to pay for all the socialist programs the Democrats want to provide, you will not have enough money to move. You had better move now while you have a chance. I have lost a job, but I went out and learned another trade to provide for my family. I took a pay cut, but worked my way back up to where my pay was at when I was laid off. I get tired of people crying about their situation. Get out and do something about it.

Let me begin with firstly stating a few things about myself. I have lived in many countries for many years and now work in Iraq supporting the US and coalition troops, not for the pay like many are but out of duty to those in harm's way.

4 years ago I was 1 month from foreclosure so please know that I have been in their shoes and understand what these people are going through, my wife and I got as good as we could and when things went bad, including work and our union, the house was close to being lost before being taken off my hands and I can recall easily the hell and stress that I went through at that time so I am not speaking callously or harshly, just as someone who has seen some and tried to understand much.

America, the great Capitalist nation and leader of commerce, Fannie May and Freddie Mac are basically government aided but are operating like private companies in order to make profit. They are now being taken over by the government and having the board replaced. In any other country this would be called Socialism and there would be outcry. The mortgages were taken and more importantly, given with the knowledge that the market was overpriced and the writing on the wall was plain to all, as it was to me due to my previous experience with foreclosure. Many of the people were duped, there is no doubt about that but, the companies should be held accountable and the guilty sent to prison just as with other companies in the past. Did the government step in to protect the innocent people who lost so much in the Enron debacle? Did they intervene in any other losses and thefts similar but less impactful to the economy at large? This is theft, the mortgage companies knew they were selling bad deed's, the buyers knew they were getting too good a deal and in over their heads in the hope that when the prices increased that they would be better off and able to either remortgage, sell or afford the new costs. Fannie May and Freddie Mac could not have been so blind as not to see what was going on so, why did they not step in sooner?

Why would the leaders of the world's largest Capitalist society suddenly do such a Socialist or even almost Communistic tactic? I am truly sorry for the pains that these people are going through but I did not ask for a bailout when I was in the same place and I acknowledged that I got myself into a bind and had to get out or suffer the results. The only way this country shall truly learn how to conduct itself correctly is to bite the bullet and accept that greed got us, as a nation, where we are today and only self control can get us into a better place in the future.

We pull a tooth to save the teeth, we cut off a limb to save the body, and we isolate the infected few to save the populace at large. We have to allow the people to suffer in order for the greater body to learn and understand. Our taxes, the taxes paid by those with and without homes either paid for or in default, are being used now to bail out a company which allowed itself to get in too far and caused much of the disastrous predicament we find ourselves in right now.

I believe that we need to insist that the government cease its plan to bail out these companies and hold those responsible up to the law and charge them appropriately for the infractions they knowingly and willingly committed. Our tax dollars are supposed to be used for the good of all people and those who are suffering are entitled to aid but the costs should be taken from the mortgage suppliers and realtors/realty companies which profited directly from these acts instead of from the public coffers.

Only when predatory sellers and companies whose bosses allow such practices in full knowledge are in custody and incarcerated will such practices lessen and people be truly safe and the public resources be safeguarded fully.
As a side note, both the Republican and Democratic party were in control of the houses of power during these times, there is no one party at fault when all turned their heads from the plainly obvious and ignored such knowledgeable people as Greenspan and Buffet who knew so much about what was happening and were not afraid to shout but were shouted down.

Even if you read a lot of news, you would have had to look really hard to find out what George Bush has to do with the mortgage mess. He pushed through a law that prevented state attorneys general from regulating lenders in their states. It was greedy lenders who made the loans, but they could only do so because regulation was outlawed. I know of only one Attorney General, Iowa's Tom Miller, who was able to do anything about predatory lenders in his state. There may be others. And don't tell me the loans were the fault of borrowers. When did you ever ask for a loan & not have to show income, assets, etc. I live in a large Texas city. There are signs everywhere saying "Why rent?" & other enticements to bring in the unsophisticated & poorly educated. They see the initial interest rate & are never told it will go up. I got into something similar with a car loan, & I have bought at least a half dozen cars. I asked about early payments on the principal & was told I could do so without any pre-payment penalty. I made an early payment & found out what was not said. They charged interest on the amount of the pre-payment. Thank heavens I can refinance that car at my credit union. A lot of the lending rules are out the window because of new regulation. How did our government get the authority to get us to bail out Bear Sterns & now Fannie & Freddy? To say that we need to do this to avoid tankung the economy is a heaping pile. The shady lenders don't want to eat their bad loans. We have got to get our country back, folks. We have to do it for our children & grandchildren.

For those wanting to blame Bush for the mess. The buck does NOT stop in the White House for anything. There is nothing he is responsible for in the last 8 years. Just ask those that voted for him.

Let them all fail. The ones who signed the paper work, and they ones that pushed the paper work. Why can't they go after the money the big boys recieved from these deals. If I cashed a bad check they would come after me, not bail me out. Now they want us tax payers to help bail out these guys, the ones who caused the problem, as they laugh all the way to the bank.
